I was just visiting my parents in Maine and was surrounded by inspiration, including all things nautical. Here's a view from my parents' dock, where my family spends a lot of time. We fish, crab, watch for seals, set off firecrackers and lounge from this spot. It's also ground central for our boating activities, all of which include ropes and knots. Lots of knots. I wish I could remember how to do certain knots from year to year. Alas, all I'm good for is the cleat knot. Sorry Dad!
A way to bring a little bit of nautical into your home is by using rope accents. Here's some inspiration for you!
Why not use rope for your handrail? This was done by Thom Filicia in his lake home and was featured in House Beautiful. Click here for a source for ropes and custom handrails.
Here's a nice door stop from World Market!

I'm usually not a fan of the fishing net look, but I love how it's used by Pier 1 with this lamp.
This basket is made from recycled lobster trap rope! Found on Etsy.
How about some curtain tie backs? A simple nod to the nautical look.
Okay, now I'm even more inspired - I hope you are too!
Until next time!
