Ever since I can remember, blue has been my favorite color. Maybe it's because I associate it with the ocean, a bright sunny sky or my husband's beautiful eyes, but I just can't get enough of it. Earlier this week, I was looking at one of my favorite blue objects and I just had to do one of my color palettes. Here it is...
Don't you just love this little guy? I bought him for $10 at a yard sale.
Blue is one of the most popular colors out there. What makes it so likable? Let's look into the meaning of blue. Blue is associated with calmness, trust, loyalty and intellect. If you love the color blue, you are confident, conservative, gentle, loyal and responsible. Careful not to use too much blue in kitchens and dining rooms though, because blue suppresses the appetite.
I love decorating with blue - either on the walls or just the objects and furnishings. Blue goes with almost any color - just be careful when mixing blues. Some don't look that great together, but you'll know it when you see it!
Here are some images of rooms that use blue really well...
I absolutely love this blue tile. With white, it's not too powerful.
Here's how to have blue in your room in a really subtle way.
A blue room while having white paint on the walls. All you need are some blue sofas to make the blue statement.
Despite the navy walls, this space feels light and bright thanks to the white built-ins, taupe sofa and sisal rug.
Want to make blue really pop? Pair it with its complementary color, orange. Again, the white and sisal provide a neutral backdrop.
There's nothing more classic than red, white and blue!
Bringing Blue Home
Okay, now that we're inspired, here are some ideas on how to incorporate blue into your house without breaking the bank, or going too blue. If you go overboard on blues, it can get really cold really fast.
Favorite Blue Paint Colors
If you want a blue room, you could take the easy way and put blue paint on the walls. So you don't end up saturating the space with too much blue, I suggest cutting it with white trim and lighter color furnishings and textiles. If you'd like to make your blue room look really clean and crisp, pair it with a brighter white trim, like Super White. If you want it to look more mellow and refined, you can use a softer white, like White Dove or Simply White.
Here are some of my favorite blues hues! All colors are Benjamin Moore.
My Favorite (Blue) Things
Here are my top blue picks. I've used many of these in my projects and they're all winners!
I could go on and on about blues, but I think that sums it up! I'd love to hear how you've got the blues in your home!
Until next time!
