Are you drowning in stuff?
As many of you know, I recently put out a survey to get some feedback on design dilemmas and someone's response really struck a chord with me. Storage is her biggest issue and this person said she doesn’t enjoy being home because she feels like there is always CONSTANT work!
I can totally relate and I find that I have the same problem (along with many of you, I’m sure). I find myself planning a lot of weekends out of town, just so I can just get away from all the organizing, tidying and cleaning. Isn't that silly? We should be able to relax in our own homes, right??!?!?
Okay - I have an idea!
With summer approaching and the kids being home for the summer, things could get extra tricky. But maybe if I look at it as an opportunity, I’ll be relaxing on my patio sipping gin and tonics this summer.
So…I’m going to try a little experiment. My kids want to earn some extra money and they could certainly learn how to do a better job with cleaning and putting their things away so we are going to PURGE, ORGANIZE and CLEAN as a TEAM. Who better to look to for advice than Martha Stewart? Turns out Martha has a book called Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook and fans call it the bible of the home.
I know - Martha can be a bit much, but she's the queen of home and I'm curious to see how she approaches things. I'm sure she has a team of minions helping her in everything she does, but I do too! They just happen to be 10 and 13. Hey, I'll take what I can get!
I'm looking at this as home schooling my kids in Home Ec 101. Do they even teach that any more?
I just ordered the book and it should be here in the next few days. I’ll dive in and tell you what works and doesn’t work – all summer long!
I'm all about sharing ideas in home design, gardening and living so we can love our homes. I'm joined by my dog, Boomer, who is always by my side.
