I wanted to share one of my favorite serendipity flea market moments. One of those times when the stars were perfectly aligned.
Last summer, I was on a mission to maximize my kids' work/creative space. I'd been wanting to add another surface to my their work table primarily for displaying Legos but also to add more storage. I went to a flea market by my parents' house on the Maine coast and found a fabulous set of vintage car jacks -fire engine red with just the right amount of rust. The $10 price tag sealed it! I wasn't sure how I would use them but I figured they could support a plank of recycled barn wood. Little did I know that later that day it would magically appear.
That afternoon, my sister's family and my parents were out for a boat ride and as they pulled up to the dock, they spotted a 16 foot piece of barn siding nestled against the dock float. Knowing my plan, they knew they had to scoop it up for me. When I saw it, I couldn't believe my eyes! It was 16' long, in excellent condition, and had a lovely red paint that was perfectly weathered. We cut it in half, hauled it back to New Jersey, put a coat of polyurethane on it and put it in place. Everytime I look at it, I'm reminded that if you just open your eyes, you'll find the most amazing treasures!
