This week, I want to share a super easy way to create a chalkboard that's totally unique and really cheap. Pick up an empty frame at a yard sale, flea market or antique shop. Look for one that's interesting, whether it's the detail, finish, color, etc. I happened to find the one shown below at a yard sale for $1! That was a lucky find but you definitely should be able to find one for less than $30.
Bring it to your local lumberyard to have a piece of plywood cut to fit inside the frame. For my local peeps, I like going to Builder's General or Monmouth Building Center. Prime the piece of plywood then put a few coats of chalkboard paint on it. Mount the chalkboard painted plywood into the frame. Lots of times the frame still has nails around the perimiter of the opening that will hold it into place.
Hang it on the wall and there you go - a totally unique chalkboard! I've had this one in my kitchen for more than five years and it's still looking good!
I'm all about sharing ideas in home design, gardening and living so we can love our homes. I'm joined by my dog, Boomer, who is always by my side.
