I've recently completed a couple of projects that have been challenges in terms of space. We needed to pack a lot of function into a small space, which brings me to what I like to call "two-fers". These are workhorse pieces that serve more than one purpose - critical in any smaller space. It seems like more of us are choosing to stay in our "jewelbox" homes rather than upgrade, so I thought I would share these gems.
We all love a good bar cart but if you're short on space, you can use a bookcase instead. Either dedicate the entire piece to barware or mix in with books and objects.
Storage Trunk/Coffee Table/Bench
This is a no brainer. When it comes to family room coffee tables, it would be crazy not to incorporate some type of storage into it. A vintage piece makes it stylish as well as functional.
Dining Table/Desk/Project Table
Many folks don't use their dining rooms on a regular basis so why not go double duty and make it an office/library? A dining room table is perfect for spreading out.
This is one has triple duty - stool/table/storage all in one!
I love the idea of maximizing the ubiquitous sofa table. In my house, it's where my kids eat dinner on movie night.
Every kitchen could use more work space and I love how this island packs a work surface, storage and an area for stools (you can't really see it in this picture).
Floor Lamp/Side Table
This idea combines two of my must have items in any bedroom or living room. Good lighting (with a dimmer of course!) and a table to set down a book and a drink.
So that sums up my favorite two-fers. Do you have any?
Till next time!
I'm all about sharing ideas in home design, gardening and living so we can love our homes. I'm joined by my dog, Boomer, who is always by my side.
